Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of making the website content fully interpretable and accessible to the search engines to make them rank your website more relevant to the customers search queries than your competitor’s website.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) stands only for local on-site optimization, while the external improvement activities (like link building, directory submitting, etc…) are called Search Engine Marketing (SEM).

Search Engine Optimization includes website code optimization (SEO semantic markup/coding), content optimization (SEO copywriting), website URLs optimization (a part of the Web Development process) and other major improvements. One of the most important factors is the reliability of the hosting, as the search engines reduce the website rank if they are experiencing often downtimes.

Look through the Search Engines’ eyes

We all know that the search engines are very clever, but not enough to read what is written on an image, what is about your cool flash animation and how stylish your website looks. All these factors are very important to make an impression on a human visitor, but are useless and invisible for the search engines. So we need to use all the techniques and technologies with the strong knowledge of the search engine indexing algorithms.

Simply follow these steps to see what the search engines see while looking on your website, is it enough search engine optimized.

  • First of all disable the JavaScript in your web browser as the search engines exclude the JavaScript code from their content during the crawling.
  • Disable Flash animations, as the search engines can’t watch them.
  • Disable CSS, because the search engines doesn’t care of your website style and design.
  • Disable Images - the search engines can’t see them.

Now if you did everything correct, you may see what exactly the search engines see.

Hope that the first thing you see is a well formatted and easy readable text and not some text fragments thrown all around the website like after a big explosion.

World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Guidelines

We all use internet and surf through 100s of different websites every day, but not all of us know that the World Wide Web uses one single publishing language called HTML. Its prototype was written by Tim Berners-Lee (the Web inventor) in 1989. Later in 1994 the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) was formed to fulfill the potential of the Web through the development of open standards. The regulator members of W3C are companies like Microsoft, Google, Mozilla, Apple, AOL, Opera, Sun Microsystems, Adobe and other known brands.

W3C has well declared and widely known recommendations for the web developers to make the websites in accordance with the following standards:

You may notice that the Google, AOL and other search engines also are members of W3C and also favor the right coded and errors free websites which follow the W3C recommendations.
